iPhone Dock Updated!

Updated and now mounted and working properly. In the prototype I was using a 5v regulator ‘7805′, which led to problems because of the heat it generated. I also had the dock mounted in front of the dash, rather than above it. This made it difficult to access the heating controls (oops!)

In the new (and final because I’m tired of this crap) version, I had replaced the 7805 and associated capacitors with the internals of a generic 5v phone charger. I removed the LED from the charger circuit because this LED would be on all the time, whether the phone was seated or not. I also removed the cutoff switch so the charge circuit is always on. Because the dock is attached to the IGNITION line of the vehicle, there is only power while the engine is running anyway. The new charger actually puts out 5.4 volts (as many 5v chargers apparently do), but the iphone handles this just fine. Now I can play my music, charge my phone, GPS etc.
